The West End is growing up fast, with condos sprouting seemingly, |
so it’s nice to see a wonderful new family owned restaurant like ThaiCoast
|
keeping a casual, neighborhood feel. Owner Valla kertgate was raised in
|
the south of Thailand close to the ocean, and the playful design and
|
color scheme of her restaurant happy seaside times. Walls and tables
|
are painted in sunny pastels – purples, peaches, light greens and blues.
|
Her sister’s cooking is equally as refreshing. Superb appetizers include
|
flavorful, grilled chicken satay with a mild peanut sauce; thin, fried bean
|
curd “sausages” filled with sweet crabmeat and chicken; and
|
|
Potato-stuffed curry puffs that strongly resemble sweet versions of |
the classic Indian samosa. Pad Thai lovers will find Thai Coast’s version on
|
a par with coconut milk is another standout, as is the magnificent house
|
special Honey Roasted Duck in a tasty honey, ginger and black with
|
